How our insurance estimate process works.
We've built the intake to be as low-friction as possible — no appointment needed, no in-person visit required up front, and no obligation:
1. Send a few photos
Through our free estimate form. The form tells you which angles we need (overall vehicle, damage close-ups, VIN, mileage). You can also include photos of damaged corners from any angle you have.
2. We review & quote
Within one business day, we come back with a written estimate: parts, labor, paint and refinish, and any supplemental items we'd expect to find on tear-down. No obligation, no high-pressure follow-up.
3. We coordinate with your carrier
Once you decide to move forward, we handle the communication with your insurance adjuster directly — paperwork, supplements, photos, parts approvals. You stay out of the middle.
Insurance carriers we work with.
Every major carrier writing policies in Iowa. We have formal Direct Repair Program (DRP) relationships with:
- Nationwide — DRP at both Des Moines and Granger
- Farm Bureau — DRP at both Des Moines and Granger
- Progressive — DRP preferred shop at Des Moines
DRP status means pre-approved repairs and faster claim processing for those policyholders. But it's not a gatekeeper. We work directly with State Farm, Allstate, GEICO, USAA, Liberty Mutual, American Family, and every other carrier just the same — the only difference is the paperwork pace, not the quality of repair you get.
In Iowa, you have the right to choose your own shop. Your insurer can recommend a shop in their network, but the choice is yours.
Comprehensive vs. collision claims.
The most common question we get is "will filing a claim raise my rate?" The short answer depends on which type of claim:
Comprehensive claims — hail, vandalism, weather, falling objects, animal strikes — almost never affect your Iowa insurance rate. They're considered no-fault events. If you have comprehensive coverage and you got hailed on, file the claim.
Collision claims — another driver hit you, or you hit something — can affect your rate depending on fault and your policy. If the other driver was at fault, your rate generally won't change because the claim goes through their carrier's liability coverage. If you were at fault, talk to your agent before filing for anything under a few thousand dollars; we'll happily walk through the trade-off with you.
Common questions.
Yes. Estimates at Willis Collision are always free, with no obligation and no high-pressure follow-up.
No. In Iowa, you have the right to choose your own collision repair shop. Your insurer can recommend a shop in their network — there can be processing speed advantages to using one — but the choice is yours.
Once we have your photos and basics through the free estimate form, we come back with a written quote within one business day. Submissions on a Friday or weekend come back Monday.
